Recently the role of cast-based politics is gaining currency in Kerala(the southern state of India -"God's own country!). It might have been present in the past in a concealed way; but now the religious and cast -based leaders are coming in the open without any inhibition to dictate their terms to political leaders. To be in power and win elections the political leaders are succumbing to the 'dikat' of these leaders. If this practice is allowed to continue and flourish, the so called democracy in the state of kerala will be in peril.
Now it has reached to such a dangerous level where the religious and cast leaders are dictating to the political leaders that who should be a minister, what shall be his portfolio, who should contest as MLA/MP from a particular constituency, who should be govt. Corporation/Board chairman,Vice-chancellor/ pro-vice-chancellor /Registrar/ syndicate members, etc. of a university, and so on.
If this practice is allowed to continue we will soon hear the death-knell of popular democracy in the state of Kerala!
